In 2019, Zoe was moving a table from a storage room in the loft space at a primary school where she is employed as a Teaching Assistant. Whilst in the process of doing this, she fell through the floor of the room and landed on the sports hall floor of the school. Subsequently, Zoe suffered a shattered vertebrae, impinging on her spinal cord and she underwent surgery for a posterior instrumental fusion, an unstable fracture dislocation, decompression, and evacuation of a haematoma. SICM began supporting Zoe from a case management perspective in 2020. Olivia and the SICM team have worked closely with Zoe over the years to ensure she has everything in place to support with her ongoing rehabilitation & recovery. Referrals were initially made to ensure Zoe had a specialist neuro-physiotherapy programme in place in addition to psychological therapy, both of which she has hugely benefited from. We have also supported in other areas with equipment provision, domestic support in the home, gym memberships, dietetic input, orthotics assessments, vehicle provision, vocational rehabilitation & so much more.

Zoe has worked so hard in all aspects of her rehabilitation over the years and has continued to push forward and not let anything stop her (despite various setbacks and health related issues she has faced). She has begun a new job which she loves, and she has also returned to driving and has had many holidays both in the UK and abroad with her husband and two daughters. Zoe has and continues to be such a pleasure to support. We are always greeted with a big smile and such positivity. It goes without saying that her strength, determination, and resilience is truly admirable.
